“Unnatural” - Faisal Scott

The idea behind unnatural was to capture the idea that the human race was moving away from the natural world into a more artificial and “unnatural” world.

Through the usage of colors, background, clothing, wires, and paint it ultimately gets the point across. The series must be viewed from beginning to end in order to make sense.

The series starts out as very green, bare, and animalistic in order to portray the innocence of mankind. The third photo then presents the subject with a black floating box that is obviously not natural. The curious subject then examines the box by touching it, resulting in a venomous effect that rapidly spreads. The point being that what once lived in harmony, now is negatively affecting mankind innocece. Pose and tone is used to help clarify the toxicity of the situation as the series goes on and the subject becomes weak. The photos in the middle of the series then start to get more orange as a transition into its final color. The paint also visibly spreads through the body. By the ninth photo there is an introduction of man made objects starting with the cement. Next a door, and finally wires. The last three photos are red and black monochromatic pieces with minimalistic backgrounds to emphasize the extreme difference from the beginning. Wires are used to represent the assimilation and reliance of man made objects in mankind’s history. The final photo being the subjects death.
